Amazfit T-Rex 3 gets firmware update version 4.8.3.5: New features & optimizations

It hasn’t even been thirty days since the 4.6.5.2 patch, but Amazfit is already back with a substantial feature drop. The Amazfit T-Rex 3 is currently receiving firmware version 4.8.3.5, a beefy update that shifts the focus toward deeper workout customization and more precise navigation tools.

While the update is rolling out in stages, here is everything you can expect once that notification hits your wrist.

Personalized Workout Displays and Logic

Amazfit has completely overhauled how you interact with workout settings. The biggest win here is the ability to configure Always-on Display (AoD) on a per-activity basis. Instead of a “one size fits all” setting, you can now keep the screen active for high-intensity runs while letting it dim for casual walks to save battery.

Additionally, managing your session is now more “accidental-press” proof. When pausing or ending a workout via a long press, the system now triggers a countdown timer, giving you a split second to let go if you didn’t mean to stop the clock.

Enhanced Tracking for Runners and Rowers

For those who take their metrics seriously, the T-Rex 3 is closing the gap with high-end dedicated sports watches:

  • Rowing Machine Connectivity: You can now pair the watch with third-party rowing hardware via Bluetooth. This allows the watch to pull data like power and distance directly from the machine.

  • Segment-Based Pace: Outdoor and Trail runners can now view “Equivalent Pace” for specific segments, making it easier to gauge effort over fluctuating terrain.

  • Heart Rate Zones: A dedicated data page for heart rate zones can now be toggled (Path: Workout Settings > Data Pages), providing a clear visual of which aerobic “bucket” you’re currently in.

Navigation Upgrades and “To Destination” Data

Navigating a route from your wrist just got a lot more informative. Amazfit has added several new data points to the navigation screen, including remaining distance and the specific ascent/descent required to reach both the next waypoint and your final destination.

They’ve also improved the “turn reminders,” making the watch more sensitive to upcoming direction changes so you don’t overshoot a trail fork. If you need to tweak your route mid-run, a new “Navigation” shortcut has been added directly to the Track page menu.

Training Optimizations and Accuracy

Beyond the new features, several under-the-hood tweaks aim to make the T-Rex 3 more reliable:

  • VO2 Max Calibration: The algorithm responsible for calculating your VO2 Max has been refined for better accuracy.

  • AMRAP Buffs: For HIIT and HYROX enthusiasts, the AMRAP (As Many Rounds As Possible) timer and templates now support sessions up to 99 minutes.

  • Status Indicators: You can now toggle status icons on your watch face via the Watch Face & Time settings if you prefer a cleaner, minimalist look.

Note on Availability: As is standard for Zepp OS updates, this is a phased rollout. If you don’t see version 4.8.3.5 in your Zepp app yet, hang tight—it should reach all global units within the next several days.
