The launch of Google’s next wearable is getting closer. Following a recent appearance in India’s BIS database, the upcoming Google Pixel Watch 5 has now cleared a major regulatory hurdle in the United States. New documentation from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) gives us a clear look at the device’s wireless capabilities, confirming a familiar but powerful mix of connectivity features.
Four New Models Spotted in Certification Filings
According to the new regulatory documents, Google has registered four distinct versions of the upcoming smartwatch. The filings list the model numbers as G25QD, G1XJ6, G0F3Y, and GFW3R.
Looking at Google’s past releases, these four numbers likely represent two different case sizes. Each size will come in two setups: a standard version and a premium version with cellular capabilities. Interestingly, the FCC paperwork notes an LTE modem across all four model numbers. It is highly probable that Google will simply use software to lock or unlock cellular access depending on the price tier you buy.
Keeping the Same Strong Wireless Standards

The documentation confirms that the Pixel Watch 5 will not drop any of the high-end wireless features from the current generation. The new models are packed with a variety of radios designed for data, tracking, and payments:
-
Ultra-Wideband (UWB): This chip allows for micro-location tracking. It lets the watch act as a digital car key or find compatible tracking tags with extreme accuracy.
-
Satellite Connectivity: The watch includes support for LTE NTN bands 23 and 255. This means users can send emergency messages via satellite when they are completely out of cell tower range.
-
Everyday Essentials: Dual-band Wi-Fi 6 (supporting both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks), Bluetooth, and an NFC chip for contactless tap-to-pay services are all standard.
Familiar Design and Potential Under-the-Hood Upgrades
While the inside of the watch is packed with tech, the outside might not look much different. Recent design leaks suggest Google is sticking with its signature circular aesthetic for another year. This lack of visual change has a hidden benefit: it likely means the watch will keep the highly repairable chassis design that hardware testers have praised in recent models.
As for processing power, industry rumors suggest Google might upgrade the internal hardware to Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon Wear Elite platform to improve battery life and speed. We won’t have to wait long for confirmation, as Google is expected to officially launch the Pixel Watch 5 this August alongside the new Pixel 11 smartphone lineup.
