Amazfit has started pushing out a fresh software update for its rugged outdoor wearables. The new firmware, labeled version 4.9.4.4, is landing on three specific models: the T-Rex 3, the T-Rex 3 Pro, and the T-Rex Ultra 2.
If you own one of these watches, you might see the update pop up today, though Amazfit is releasing it in waves. This means it could take a few days to reach everyone.
Automatic Tracking for Scuba Divers

The biggest headline feature in this update is all about the water. The watch can now sense exactly when you dive into a pool or the ocean.
Even if you are just looking at your normal watch face and forgot to start a workout, the device will automatically detect that you have submerged and will launch a dive training session on its own.
Better Ways to Manage Storage and Maps
If you use your watch to navigate hiking trails or city streets, downloading maps can quickly eat up memory. Amazfit is giving users more control over this process. Inside the Zepp companion app on your phone, you will find a new management screen. From there, you can easily pause, resume, delete, or update any map downloads.
Furthermore, you can now keep up to 100 different route tracks saved directly on your wrist, and the watch will let you download maps even when it is plugged in with a low battery.
Smarter Route Planning and Navigation
Getting lost right before a big hike is incredibly frustrating. To fix this, the update changes how routes look before you even start moving. When you load up a path, the watch face will show you a preview of the track and the name of the route on the preparation screen.
If you are planning a route while entirely offline, the watch now asks what you want to do next. You can choose to simply save the path for later, save it and start walking immediately, or just navigate without saving it to your permanent history.
Tweaks to Save Battery and Fix Bugs
Behind the scenes, Amazfit also tweaked a few existing features to make the watches run smoother. If you are on a multi-day camping or hiking trip, the “Resume Later” feature has been upgraded. Putting your workout on pause during rest breaks will now drain significantly less battery power than before.
The visual maps on your wrist will also look slightly different. The zoom scales have been redesigned for both metric and imperial measurements, making it easier to see exactly how far away your next turn is. Finally, the developers bundled in standard bug fixes to stop the operating system from crashing or freezing during heavy use.
A Staggered Release

Don’t worry if you check your settings and the download isn’t available just yet. Amazfit is launching this software update in phases. While a handful of lucky users have already received the prompt to install version 4.9.4.4, the rest of the rollout will roll out gradually over the next few days. Keep an eye on your Zepp app for a notification.
