Suunto is releasing a new software update, version 2.44.46, for its smartwatches, including the Suunto Race, Race S, Vertical, and Peak 9 Pro. The update for the Race and Race S is already rolling out, with the Vertical and Peak 9 Pro to follow in the coming days. This update introduces a number of new features and improvements to enhance the user experience.

Expanded Sensor and Map Capabilities

A key new feature is the ability to pair multiple sensors of the same type. This allows you to connect several devices, such as heart rate monitors or cycling power meters, at the same time. You will, however, need to re-pair any existing sensors after the update. The update also lets you see detailed sensor information, like the battery level and device name, directly on your watch. In addition, you can now download maps without needing to have your watch on the charger, making it more convenient to prepare for your next adventure.

Enhanced Training and Recovery Tools

The update provides several new tools to help you with your training. A new Recovery State widget gives you a quick summary of your recovery status. For targeted workouts, the new ZoneSense feature allows you to set specific intensity targets in your sport mode. If you use the Climb guidance feature, you’ll find an improved user interface with the ability to zoom in between waypoints.

Security and Performance Improvements

To keep your data safe, a new passcode feature has been added, which secures your watch when it’s off your wrist. The update also includes several bug fixes and performance enhancements. Swim style detection for pool swimming has been improved, and notifications from iOS devices can now display longer content. Furthermore, the accuracy of the watches has been boosted with an updated GNSS firmware, and GPS optimization data is now automatically loaded over Wi-Fi every night.

How to Get the Update

Getting the new software on your Suunto watch is straightforward. The easiest way is usually through the Suunto app on your smartphone. When you open the app, it will sync with your watch and often automatically begin downloading and installing the update in the background. It’s always a good idea to ensure your watch has at least a 50% charge before starting the update to prevent any interruptions.
