Suunto Race 3 and Race 3S Spotted in IMDA Regulatory Filings Ahead of Launch

Suunto appears to be gearing up for its next major launch in the performance sports watch market. According to a discovery by the team at WearableFans, two unreleased Suunto outdoor watches have officially popped up in Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) regulatory database, signaling that an official release could be right around the corner.

What the IMDA Certification Reveals

The new filings in Singapore’s database list two distinct model numbers under the “Outdoor Watch” category:

  • Model OW261 (submitted via Global Approvals Pte. Ltd.)

  • Model OW265 (submitted via EDPLUS Pte. Ltd.)

Both devices are classified as low-power radio equipment equipped with dual connectivity options, including Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. While regulatory databases rarely list consumer marketing names, getting approval from agencies like the IMDA is typically one of the final steps a manufacturer takes before shipping devices to store shelves in Asia and international markets.

Connecting the model numbers to recent leaks paints a clear picture. The two listings line up directly with expectations for the upcoming Suunto Race 3 family:

  • OW261 is expected to be the standard, full-sized Suunto Race 3.

  • OW265 is pointing toward the Suunto Race 3S, following Suunto’s established naming scheme where “S” represents a smaller, lighter casing designed for smaller wrists or athletes prioritizing low weight.

This dual-size strategy mirrors what Suunto did with the previous generation, ensuring trail runners and endurance athletes can pick between maximum screen real estate or a more compact fit.

What to Expect From the Race 3 Series

While official specifications remain under wraps, the Race 3 generation is expected to build heavily on the strengths of its predecessors. Suunto has been aggressively transitioning toward high-brightness AMOLED displays, offering vibrant map rendering and sharp readability during outdoor activities.

Key features anticipated for the new generation include:

  • Bright AMOLED Screens: High-resolution displays tuned for quick viewing during high-speed activities like trail running or cycling.

  • Multi-Band GPS & Offline Maps: Top-tier spatial tracking alongside pre-loaded offline topographic mapping.

  • Refined Battery Efficiency: Longer battery runtime in active GPS tracking modes.

  • Expanded Software Features: Potential new training analytics and enhanced software tools integrated into the Suunto app ecosystem.

When Will Suunto Formally Announce Them?

Now that the devices have cleared regulatory hurdles in Singapore, an official announcement from Suunto is likely only a matter of weeks away. Manufacturers usually secure regional approvals shortly before opening pre-orders or kicking off global marketing campaigns.

Credit for spotting these initial IMDA filings goes to the team at WearableFans.
