Zepp Health, the company that makes Amazfit smartwatches, appears to be developing a new rucking workout mode. The feature was recently found in the code of the Zepp smartphone app and has been a frequent request from Amazfit users.

For those unfamiliar, rucking is a low-impact exercise where you walk with a weighted backpack. It’s an activity that has gained popularity recently and is already available on competitor devices, such as the Garmin Fenix 8.

What the Code Reveals

A new rucking workout mode appears to be in development for Amazfit smartwatches. This highly requested feature was recently discovered in the code of the Zepp app (version 9.10.3), suggesting that Zepp Health is listening to its users who want better tracking for outdoor and functional fitness. In addition to Rucking, the code also reveals a new Mountain Hiking mode, which will be separate from the existing Hiking mode.

Rucking, a popular exercise that combines brisk walking with carrying a weighted backpack or vest, is used for building endurance, improving general fitness, and even military-style training. Previously, Amazfit users had to log this activity as a generic walk or create a custom workout, which meant important metrics like pack weight couldn’t be tracked directly.

The new code indicates that Rucking is now a distinct sport in the app’s database. This change was implemented between July and August, confirming that Zepp Health is actively working to incorporate the feature.

Release Date and Device Compatibility

While the new rucking mode seems likely, there’s no official word on when it might be released. It’s also not clear which Amazfit smartwatches will support the new feature, but it’s possible that newer models like the Balance 2 will be among the first.
