Amazfit Smartwatches Get Internet Radio via New WatchFM App

Amazfit smartwatch owners now have a brand-new way to enjoy music on the go. A fresh third-party app called WatchFM has just been released, bringing live internet radio directly to your wrist. Instead of going through the hassle of downloading and saving MP3 files directly onto your watch, you can now stream music with ease.

The Smartphone Connection Catch

While the idea of a standalone radio on your watch is exciting, there is a small catch. The WatchFM app cannot do it all by itself; it still relies heavily on your smartphone.

To make the music play, you must keep the official Zepp app running in the background on your phone, and your watch needs to stay connected via Bluetooth. This means you cannot leave your phone at home and go for a walk while listening to the radio. Even if your smartwatch is connected to a local Wi-Fi network, the app will not work if you wander out of your smartphone’s Bluetooth range.

Stations, Features, and Controls

Because the app is relatively new, the current lineup of radio stations is a bit small. Right now, listeners can tune in to channels like KIIS FM from Los Angeles and SBS PopAsia from Australia, though more stations will likely be added in the future.

Despite the limited selection, the app is built to be very practical. You do not have to keep the WatchFM screen open to hear your tunes; the music will happily play in the background while you check your steps or read notifications. If you tap the app while listening, it helpfully displays the current time and how much battery life you have left. You can also easily adjust the volume using the physical buttons on the side of your smartwatch.

Who Can Download It Today?

Currently, the WatchFM app is only available for Amazfit smartwatches that feature a classic round screen. During recent tests on the Amazfit T-Rex 3, the app ran very smoothly without any performance issues.

If you own an Amazfit watch with a square or rectangular face, do not worry. The developers have already announced that an update supporting rectangular screens is on the way soon.
