Samsung is getting ready to launch its new premium smartwatch, the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. While the outside of the watch will look very similar to the older model, the technology inside is getting a massive upgrade. According to a well-known tech insider named Ice Universe, this new watch is about to break some major records.

A Screen That Outshines the Competition

The biggest news is the screen. The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 will feature a special type of AMOLED display that can reach a brightness of 5,000 nits. To put that into perspective, the original Galaxy Watch Ultra only reaches 3,000 nits.

Even more impressive, Samsung’s new screen beats the high-end Garmin Fenix 8 Pro. That watch costs $1,700 and uses a MicroLED screen that tops out at 4,500 nits. This means Samsung’s new device will likely have the brightest screen ever seen on a smartwatch, making it incredibly easy to read even under bright, direct sunlight.

Better Battery Life and Slimmer Design

You might think a brighter screen would drain the battery fast, but Samsung found a clever solution. The watch uses a new “OCF-OLED” panel. This technology is 20 percent thinner and much more energy-efficient. In fact, it uses the same amount of power at 5,000 nits as older screens used at 3,000 nits.

On top of the power-saving screen, Samsung is giving the battery a huge boost. The battery size is jumping from 590 mAh to 800 mAh. Because the screen saves power and the battery is much larger, users can expect the watch to last between three and four days on a single charge—up from the usual 60 hours.

Built for the Outdoors

The watch is also built to handle tough environments. It will come with an IP69K rating, which means it can survive powerful jets of hot water and heavy dust. It also keeps its 10 ATM water resistance rating, meaning you can take it deep underwater without any issues.

When Can You Get It?

We won’t have to wait too long to see it in person. Samsung is expected to officially reveal the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 at an event on July 22. The company will also likely show off the standard Galaxy Watch9 and its newest folding smartphones at the same time.
