A scuba diver in the Caribbean just made a shocking discovery at the bottom of the ocean. While swimming near the island of Saint Martin, they found a mysterious smartwatch sitting on the seafloor. As it turns out, the device might actually be an unreleased prototype of Google’s upcoming Pixel Watch 5.

The story came to light after an X (formerly Twitter) user named Randy Pitchford shared photos of the find, explaining that his friend was the one who pulled it from the water.

Is the Story Real or a Hoax?

Tech leaks happen all the time, but finding a top-secret device underwater is definitely unusual. It instantly reminds tech fans of the famous 2010 incident when an Apple engineer accidentally left a prototype of the iPhone 4 on a barstool.

However, this ocean story raises a few eyebrows. The biggest mystery is how clean the watch looks. Saltwater and sand usually scratch and damage electronics very quickly, but this watch looks almost brand new. We do not know how long it was underwater, which leaves room for skepticism. On the bright side, Pitchford later posted an update claiming they actually tracked down the original owner.

What the Photos Reveal About the Design

If you were hoping for a major design overhaul, you might be disappointed. Based on the shared photos, the Pixel Watch 5 looks almost identical to the current Pixel Watch 4.

The person who found it tried to turn it on, but the battery was nearly dead. It had just enough power to show the time, which is why none of the photos show the main apps or user interface. However, the back of the watch clearly has text engraved on it that identifies it as a Pixel Watch model.

Expected Features and Release Date

Even though the outside looks the same, the inside should get some nice upgrades. Rumors suggest Google will pack the watch with a new Snapdragon Wear processor. This chip will make the watch run much faster and help the battery last longer. It is also expected to launch with Google’s new Wear OS 7 software.

We will not know all the official details for a few months. Google is expected to officially announce the Pixel Watch 5 in August 2026, alongside its new Pixel 11 smartphones.
